BODY (composition of elements contained by skin and which order is rearrangeable) PARTS (the elements) ORGANS (structures in the body that perform specific functions)
VIDEO LINK (as seen on home page) CONTENT: Touch & Organ Rebalancing (VMI) -Anatomy of the organs; Response to touch: sensing weight, density, texture, surfaces, vitality of the organs Memory of touch -responding to memory of sensation and visualisation
Preparation -warm up on the ground, visualising the anatomy of the body by listening to a detailed description / body scan led by the facilitator -partner work on the floor, based VMI principles: bringing attention to organs, visualising and sensing texture, density and direction of tissues. -responding to the touch. Noticing the moment the response initiates -relating two or more organs to one another or another body part. Noticing any clarity or confusion
Moving -independently exploring the memory of sensation and the imagination of relation. Noticing and acknowledging any changes in the linearity of movement or of thought.
TASK 1 - Organs and Sensation
Instructions set for this task: “identify and define for yourself the organ of attention; move your body initiating from the organ in relation to a chosen muscle or muscle group, by increasing or decreasing the distance between the two.”
Research Methodology: PaR and literature review on: Anatomy of the torso; Vital Movement Integration (VMI) Bodywork Experimentation of the designed exercise in the studio Observation of the result of the exercise
The dancers are introduced to human anatomy, with focus on the following organs: oesophagus, lungs, heart, stomach, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, large intestine, small intestine, bladder. With a practice of Organ Rebalancing, they develop sensitivity and awareness in the areas of attention.
TASK 2 - Organs and Imagination
Instructions set for this task: “identify and define for yourself the organ of attention; choose an organ to focus on in the body of your partner. Move your body from the organ in relation to that of your partner and attempt to provoke their movement in their by increasing or decreasing the distance between the two.”
Research Methodology: PaR and literature review on: Anatomy of the organs, Kinaesthetic Awareness; VMI Experimentation of designed exercises in the studio Observation of the result of the exercise
With a choice from the above mentioned organs, the dancers pick one organ from their body, and one organ from another dancer's body. They move with consideration to distance from their partner's organ.
