The dancers comment...
They ask themselves...
What If I resist the task?
What if I disagree with it?
What if I disagree with my resistance to the task?
How do I resist, quit, leave?
What if I am aware of my disagreement?
What if I don’t want to follow nor escape?
When do I trust the work?
The studies in this prototype focused on tasks with attention to the dancers' physical awareness.
With consideration to their responses and feedback, as the research progresses it will touch on the cognitive and psychological aspects, addressing a dialogue between movement of body and of thought.
The research will aim at constituting a palette of tools, through which I will attempt to guide the dancers to finding moments of incoherency, (in)decision or confusion within a fluid framework.
My hypothesis:
If observing the changes that occur in the body through dancing can help us recognise the present moment, our mind awakened by the unexpected; then the awareness of our actions will be enhanced and we will be able to move in and out of habits and patterns that condition our range of expression.
Study samples to develop from this prototype:
- Reasons to move: how do I practice keeping or finding interest in what I am doing?
- Habits / Subjectivity : what are my tendencies?
- Rephrasing set material: how do I find ways to keep material alive?
- Trusting the task: how do I throw myself in the unprecedented, and allow to become vulnerable, in front of others, without losing clarity or purpose?
Different approaches to documenting and archiving will be needed, to grasp various nuances emerging from the research.
